Agnès Maurer is a native of France, where she studied the violin privately. At the age of sixteen, she joined the Ensemble Instrumental Andrée Colson, a professional chamber orchestra.
In 1976, she came to the United States and studied viola with Karen Tuttle at the Peabody Conservatory, with Kim Kashkashian at the New School of Music and with Geoffrey Michaels in Radnor, PA.
She teaches violin and viola at her home studio “Bear Crossing Music Studio“. She directs two summer music camps (“Bear Crossing Music Camps”) at her studio. She is an active chamber musician herself. She is a member of the Gabriel Chamber Ensemble, of which she is the founder and executive director. The Ensemble has created the only chamber music series in the Schuylkill County, and has toured in Maryland, New Jersey, Atlanta Georgia and Vermont.
Mrs. Maurer freelances in most of Eastern Pennsylvania, and has toured worldwide on numerous occasions, including a tour with the New-York City National Opera Company. She is Principal Violist with the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, with Allentown Symphony Orchestra, with Anthracite Philharmonic Orchestra and with the Shippensburg Festival Orchestra. She is also a member of Celtic Sunrise Trio.
Her solo appearances have included performances of Stamitz, Handel-Casadesus, and Telemann Viola Concerti, “Harold in Italy” by Berlioz, and Mozart Symphonie Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra.
